NHLBI Policy for Ordering Educational Materials
As more informationparticularly health informationis
delivered digitally, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) has greatly enhanced its digital content
offerings, including podcasts, educational videos, digital tools, and
downloadable fact sheets. Currently, all NHLBI health information
materials, from clinical practice guidelines to fact sheets, are available from
the NHLBI Web site for digital
download and self-printing.
Print materials are available at no charge in limited quantities. If you need materials in larger
quantities, we can provide free of charge, printer's files, which you can take
to a local printer.
Our Online
Catalog offers many ways for you to access all NHLBI health
information resources, including:
- Downloading specific educational materials for self-printing
- Using content in newsletters and on Web sites
- Ordering print materials in limited quantities
- Ordering printers' files, to use when locally printing large
quantities
To assist you in planning for future information needs, the
NHLBI Health
Information Center (HIC) Information Specialists are available between 8:30
a.m. and 5:00 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday to provide solutions and
support via live chat, telephone or e-mail.
NHLBI Use of Materials and Copyright Standard Response
The materials published by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) are in the public domain, so no permission is required to reproduce or reprint them in whole or in part. However, organizations that reproduce NHLBI publications are requested to cite the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as the source. This applies to print publications, graphics, and animations in the NHLBI Diseases and Conditions Index (DCI) as well as documents and content from the NHLBI Web site. Organizations may add their own logo or name. The NHLBI further asks that no changes be made in the content of the materials, and that neither the materials nor any NHLBI Internet links be used in any direct or indirect product endorsement or advertising.

Why are there limits to how many publications I can order?
Limits are set to help ensure that the NHLBI can provide as many people
as possible with printed materials and meet the needs with its inventory and
budget. The number of print copies available varies by item and may change
depending on our supply at the time of the request. Additional copies of
NHLBI materials are available for downloading and printing on the NHLBI Web
site: www.nhlbi.nih.gov.
Do you ship materials outside the United States and
U.S. territories?
Printed materials may be shipped to locations outside the United States
only for requestors who provide a FedEx or UPS account number or commercial
carrier arranged prior to shipment.
When can I expect my materials?
Your order will be processed within 1-2 business days of
receipt. In most cases, orders will be shipped via U.S. Postal Service and
generally take between 2 days and 3 weeks to arrive, depending on the size,
weight, and destination of the materials. The NHLBI Health Information
Center (HIC) will expedite shipping at the requestor's expense, charging the
cost of special handling to the requestor's commercial carrier
account. Please contact the NHLBI HIC with a FedEx, UPS, or commercial
carrier account number between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. ET, Monday
through Friday, by telephone at 301-592-8573, TTY 240-629-3255, or e-mail at
nhlbiinfo@nhlbi.nih.gov.
How do I request quantities of materials beyond the order limit?
Requests for quantities greater than standard limits will be reviewed on
an exception basis according to product availability and other
considerations. You may contact us directly between 8:30 a.m. and
5:00 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, by telephone at 301-592-8573, TTY
240-629-3255, or e-mail at nhlbiinfo@nhlbi.nih.gov.
What if I submit multiple orders online to get the quantity of
publications that I need?
The NHLBI encourages requestors who need large amounts of materials to
contact us directly between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. ET, Monday
through Friday, by telephone at 301-592-8573, TTY 240-629-3255, or e-mail at
nhlbiinfo@nhlbi.nih.gov,
otherwise, your requests may not be fulfilled.
Can I get a printer's files of a publication so I can print it
myself?
We will provide you, free of charge, printer's files with a high definition PDF
for printing.
Where can I find the NHLBI materials catalog in print?
The NHLBI materials catalog in print version has been discontinued;
however, you can view all of the available materials in the
NHLBI Online Catalog. Our Online
Catalog offers many ways for you to access all NHLBI health information
resources, from clinical practice guidelines to fact sheets, including:

How can I customize NHLBI materials, for example co-branding?
You can request a printer's files of the publication you would like to
customize and place your logo next to the NHLBI logo prior to
printing.
