This is a nice variety of recipes that seems to touch on a few Latino nationalities, but not all. Add a page at the beginning with 10-20 key things a person can substitute to reduce fat, salt, sugar, calories, cholesterol, etc. For example, instead of lard, use cooking spray. Instead of beef or pork, use ground turkey (which tastes good and similar enough). Instead of salt, use garlic and list other herbs. Instead of egg yolks, use egg whites or half the egg yolk recipe amount. Take off skin and fat prior to any cooking. Baking is better than frying. Save time and money, use a toaster oven. Use smaller plates so portions are smaller. These are easy tips that are understandable for any nationalities recipes. If a person uses beans alot, and they are diabetic and have kidney issues, replace beans with something else. Check out what are the no-no foods or prep methods in a few Latino nationalities (Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, El Salvadorean) and make recommendations.

I was very happy to find these recipes. I have been looking for a site like this easy but good. I did notice one review said it was all in Spanish I noticed that it is in both Spanish and English which is good for all.

Can you please make sure the PDF works? Also, on the HTML version the English version has very thorough directions of each recipe while the Spanish does not. I was hoping i could give this to my mother(does not speak English) since my dad has heart disease and she really doesn’t know any alternative ways of cooking.

Not a good idea for loss weight or be heart healthy to add any salt, oil or high fat (avocados) to any recipe.

I lived in South America for a number of years and loved the Latin style cooking. The collection you have presented bring back many memories. All recipes are easy to prepare and I am enjoying them all.

I would recommend a shopping list of healthy foods for your recipes -- I would not recommend instant corn flour or cereals - need to use brown rice - instead of white rice. I would also recommend more vegetable and fruit recipes that kids will eat. I also agree about the carbs especially for Latinos and risk of DM needs to be included...and how to make your own recipes healthier. I like the recipe for creama agria (casera) Gracias! Thanks!

I was disappointed to see that no carbohydrate measurements were given, as that is so important to an all-around knowledge of ingredients. Thanks for the English translations. I also didn’t see too many recipes that were strictly Mexican. Not that this is good or bad; I guess I expected Mexican dishes, and most of these were basic American cooking recipes, with a few cilantros or yuccas thrown in.

This needs to be in English. Every hispanic person does not speak Spanish. In addition, what about other people who want to do hispanic/spanish/latina cooking.. and they can not read spanish. Please change that!

The is a good resource for many patients. However, it would be a great resource if it included other Hispanic poplulations such as Cuban and Puerto Rican - the biggest hispanic populations in Florida. Perhaps there should be a separate booklet for those nationalities?

My family and I have always been fit and in shape. This book is the icing on the cake! Make it low fat cake, of course. It has many delicious Latin recipes and even thought I am not Latin,I still enjoy Latin food. Great recipes! Very tasty!

Two issues:
1. Does not offer improvements on recipes families will continue to cook. Need to redo recipes that are not heart healthy.
2. Does not meet the needs of Cuban and other Carribean Hispanics, who are our primary population in South Florida.

My mom will be turning 65 soon and retired early. Her health has been an issue lately and it is because of high blood pressure. I have tried to convince her that the food she eats is a big problem and does not help. This book showed her how tasty Latino food can be with out all the fat. The saying is true seeing is believeing.
